Pam's 62nd Birthday

I have two wonderful Visiting Teachers in Japan, Sister Uchida and Sis. Yamagishi.  Sis Uchida speaks pretty good English because she served a mission in the US.  They planned this birthday luncheon with the ladies of the Nagamachi Ward.
I could not believe all the food that was brought to share.

My VTers.

This picture was taken early in the day.  About this many more came before we were finished.
Sister Thomas (office) talking to the Shimai.

Something was funny to Sis. Jahana.
Sis Sato was recently baptised.  She was taught the gospel in our home many times and we love her.  She has read the Book of Mormon several times in the past 6 months and is now teaching her Father about the gospel.  We hope her 20 year old son joins her one day soon.

Because it is the Japanese way, I made tiny chocolate chip cookies and put two in these little bags as a thank you to each of the ladies who attended.  (To present them, use two hands and hand them to a sister while bowing.)
The morning of my birthday, Gary and I went for a walk up a mountain where he rides his bike often.  This is the view as we walked on the bridge across the freeway.
Isn't this a beautiful walking path?

These steps led up to a small Buddhist temple up the mountain about 1/2 mile .
The wooden arch way designates an enterance to a temple.
We walked to this spot where there are benches for resting a large umbrella is set up and even fans hanging from the pole for anyone who might need them on their walk.  Every morning at 6:30 a group of ladies gather here to do Radio Excercise class--or Rogio Tieso.  The entire nation of Japan knows exactly what to do when they hear the music from their childhood.  We did the class that morning with the ladies--Gary often does it with them when he rides his bike.

This is the Temple up in the mountains.  It was damaged heavily from the big Earthquake.
This little lady took us on a guided tour up the mountain.  She has climbed the 10 highest peaks in Japan; also several of the highest peaks in the world.  She is over 70 years old and climbed that mountain like a mountain goat.  Amazing!! (but she didn't want to take the Book of Mormon we offered her at the end of the day.  Gary insisted and she was too polite to say "no")
The AP's decorated my door when we arrived home with notes from all the missionaries.

My housekeeper gave me these beautiful flowers.
Some of the gifts given to me.  The greatest was an I-PAD from Gary.  I love it!
