Church in Joetsu

We attended church in Joetsu last Sunday and they had a total of 13 attend (some were investigators who didn't stay for lunch and didn't get in the pictures) which was quite amazing. They are a genki group of saints and we had fun talking and laughing with them after church during the potluck lunch that appeared for us.

Elder Kurita in the back, Yuki Spencer (yellow) Rina, a new convert who is Philipino, and Bro Spencer. The Spencers met at BYU-H and he teaches English in the schools.

Elder Kurita and Koguki, daughter of Rina.

Branch President Akano and his wife who doesn't like her picture taken. Also Bro. Takigawa.

The group picture taken outside the church.

March Zone Leader Council

A couple of weeks ago, Elder Ellis called me with a request for Zone Leader Council dinner. Because he is going home next week, I agreed. He wanted Shepherd's Pie of all things. I wasn't sure how it would be received by the Japanese Elders, but apparently they loved it. Two huge pans of it was all but gone.
The group of them just before we let them dig into the food.
They had been in meetings since 1:30 on Tuesday and then they all went dendoing in the Kamisugi Ward for about 3 hours along with several ward mission leaders and President Rasmussen. (about 8 companionships). They came back to our house about 9 PM for dinner.
I love it when missionaries love what they are eating.

They are always so good to clear the table and fill the dishwasher with the dishes. Won't they be great husbands someday!
Elder Lundell and Elder Shaw doing dishes!
I don't remember having a serious conversation with Elder Ellis and Watanabe, but apparently we were serious about something.
Elder Dowdy taking a phone call at 10:15 PM from someone in his zone. He is doing very well after learning of the passing of his Mom almost two weeks ago.
Elder Watanabe, Takei and Ohira discussing the missionary work done tonight with Bro.Terei, a Ward Mission Leader who joined us for dinner.
Still getting the kitchen cleaned up.
Wednesday morning, Elder Dowdy was given the Alma O. Taylor pin to wear on his lapel for finishing his reading of the Book of Mormon in Japanese. A HUGE accomplishment.
A fine group of Zone Leaders!! Back (l-r) Kaneshiro, Dowdy, Ellis, Takei, Watanabe, Lundell, Ikeda. Front (l-r) Pres Rasmussen, Ohira, Shaw and Juchau.

Member Meeting with Elder Oaks and Hallstrom

We received a copy of the pictures taken at the Member Meeting with Elder Oaks and Hallstrom by the Church News photographer. There are so many good candid pictures of many people in the Stake that we know and love as well as our visiting authorities. These pictures were taken in the Sendai Stake Center. However, members were gathered in every chapel (26)in the entire mission to participate in this meeting.
