We are seeing historical numbers of new missionaries coming into the Sendai Mission. We are happy to deal with the logistic challenges that come with this many missionaries needing to eat and sleep and be transported around. Not an easy task but we have worked hard and tried to anticipate every situation. The office staff have been phenomenal and we appreciate all they do.
Just 3hours before the new missionaries arrive at the airport, we meet with all of the new trainers and give them some training to prepare them for the most important calling in the mission.
The Assistants do most of the training. (Elders Takase & Ohori)
They arrived safe and sound!!
They are getting their luggage stored under the bus that will drive them all to the Honbu.
The Group picture at the airport with the office staff.
We didn't get pictures ~ but the bus took the new, very tired missionaries to the Nagamachi Chapel where their luggage was stored for the night. Then the bus drove them all to the Mission Home where we fed them soup and bread and sent them to bed as quickly as possible. We had 15 Shimai staying out our home and the 6 Elders stayed upstairs in the Nagamatchi Elder's apartment.
The next morning the kitchen was buzzing with great helpers preparing pancakes and eggs and fruit.
Our darling Japanese Shimai
Everyone wanted to help.
Glad we have several long tables to fit everyone.
We spent the day training the new missionaries at the Nagamachi Church.
They had a few forms to fill out. The bags hold lots of items for them today but they will also double as a grocery bag. (In Japan, we bag our own groceries and bring our own bags or pay for plastic bags from the store.) Sister Rollins shows them how to fold it into a small 4"X 4" flat square that will fit in their backpack and take no space. The yellow shirts are Helping Hands shirts.
The moment arrived for the trainers to enter the room and listen
for the announcement of who would be companions. The room is quite electric
at this point.. The trainers are as nervous as the new missionaries. Fun!
