Cleaning Mud Out of Ditches in Watari

Matching gloves and T-shirts. Elder Ruefenacht, Tanaka, Sisters Tanaka, Tauira, Tehei & Murase.
Sisters Asato, Fukuda and Maki.
Sisters Sato and Chikamori & Elders Ishida and Robbins.
Sister Tehei lifting that heavy mud up out of the ditch. Hard work!
This great little tool lifted the rectangular cement cover off the ditch at the side of the road. Elder Ogita and Elsworth watch Oikawa lift the covers.
Break time with Sis Tehei and Murase.
The ditches were deep and full of water which made lifting mud out "less effective".
The mud was placed in these white bags which became heavy very quickly.
Good-natured Elder Ruefenacht worked with Gary.
There is always something to laugh about when missionaries get together. (Sis Chikamori, Elder Robbins, Lay, Tanaka, and Ruefenacht.
Elder Oikawa and Sister Tehei were a great team.
Elder Lay ran from bag to bag, picking them up and dumping them in one pile. Elder Kurita smiling.
Elder Ishida toting that heavy bag of mud.
Elder Lay had the wheel barrow duty down to a science.
We ate our bentos (lunch) in the front of this home that was destroyed in the tsunami. You can see evidence of family life that once filled the walls of this house. Who knows what became of the family who lived here.

Group picture before we loaded on the bus to leave. This is about 1/3 of the mission.
